ok, i cleaned up some things and added the instruments. i think this is the one i will send to dl for review. i kinda like how it turned into a mountain of drums. the text seems kinda goofy, though, because i just slapped it together last minute. i dunno, if the rest of the band is ok with it, i'm cool with it. tell me what you think.

i did some work on the 'ol t-shirt design. obviously, this is still pretty rough, and i haven't worked in all the details that i want (instruments and whatnot). i'll keep you posted on the progress.

yes, i drew another crazy guest comic for flip and splog. boco was sick, and i was bored at work, so i whipped up this atrocity in ms paint.

you should read this man's hilarious resume letters. this is exactly what my college application essay will be like when i get around to it.

the greatest part of using ms paint to design is that i can do it at work. rock 'n roll! anyway, you would totally pay five bucks for an ep if this was the cover, right? i mean, it wouldn't even matter how crappy the music is, am i right?

now all i have to do is write some music, and we've got a crappy new band with an awesome logo.

update: dammit! i just noticed that i forgot an 'o' in protocol. crap. well, here, you can go enjoy this. don't enjoy it too much, now.

update: ok, it's fixed now. that wasn't too hard. i actually kinda like this better.


i'm considering changing the dot pattern on the left side to say something in binary or morse code or something. this isn't something i actually know how to do, so we'll see about that.

brian and i are starting a band called "company protocol", and this is the logo i made. ms paint all the way, baby! we've decided on the title of our first ep: "misery loves company protocol". pretty clever, yeah? you know it.


this is the sketch i made for the next t-shirt design. in case you don't recognize us, from left to right it's dan nagy, dave hoffman (me), dl, justin powers, and brian stulpinas/shebake. i really want to ink this, but i have all sorts of troubles with it every time i try. hopefully i will be able to get something together before we finish the album.

ok, i should make a list of things to do. here we go.

-meet with dan huff and work on huffhoff set to play at fat bean
-work with brian on company protocol
-ink t-shirt design
-finish my goddamn album

so, the new i need sleep album is coming along really nicely. i've decided that since i've got sort of a talent for graphic design, and we're trying to keep the production of this thing on the cheap, i might as well try coming up with how this thing is going to be packaged and what the promotional whatnots will look like. i figured this would be the proper place to post my ideas for response, since i'm trying to make this my personal projects blog, and this is my current project.



i think we all pretty much agreed on the title "needle pies" for the album, because it's an odd name, and it's a perfect anagram for i need sleep. of course, whenever a decision like this is assumed, somebody in the band always stands up out of nowhere to object... but whatever, i can always redesign. i see circles and dotted lines being a big part of the design, i'm going to have to learn to use adobe illustrator better to achieve the look i want. i'd also like to tie in the t-shirt design i had been working on previously, to give our merchandise a little more unity and develop a little more of an image for the band.


here's a little idea i was playing around with. inspired (or ripped off from) pablo ferro, who did the awesome hand-drawn titles for such movies as dr. stranglove, beatlejuice, and men in black, and i hear also did the ridiculously hilarious opening titles for napoleon dynamite. anyway, i was thinking of expanding on this sort of lettering, definitely developing on it. i really want to make it recognizable, so that even one letter of it would be synonymous with i need sleep. gonna be pretty tricky to do. i will continue to sketch and post and share... tell me what you think, tell me your ideas so i can steal them.
