i should give up
I totally blew out my vocal chords singing "Cromwell" at practice the other day. I can barely talk now, and it really sucks.
So, we've got to come up with album art. What would you like to see on the cover of our CD?

this movie makes me want to type in all caps
So my wisdom teeth are gone and I feel fine. It's not even friggin' swollen or painful or anything, which is awesome. This means I might play the open mic tomorrow.
I was really bored today because I set myself up to be in horrible pain, and then I wasn't. So, I went out and rented a couple of movies, and I just got done watching one of them. It was a little film called "Elephant."
Now, I can say in all honesty that this movie was about 100 times more excruciating than having my teeth pulled. What you've got here is a handful of characters, and it gives them names and faces, but really nothing more. I can just imagine the director coming home after the premier, going into his garage for a beer, and seeing the big barrel of character development that he forgot to put in the movie. "Oh, crap!" he'd say, "I hope nobody notices!" Apparently nobody did notice since it won the sundance Palme d'Bullshit in 2003.
So you see this guy has a dad who's drunk and he gets in trouble and this other guy takes pictures of people and this other guy's got a girlfriend who gets mad when other people look at him and there are some girls who make themselves throw up and there's a girl who won't change her pants for gym and that's it. There's about ten minutes of completely inane dialog ("Hey, what's up?" "Not much!") and three quarters of the movie is comprised of people walking in hallways. Towards the end, some kids go around shooting the other kids for no reason, but I don't care because the people dying never had any character and the kids shooting them never had any established motive.
I actually enjoyed Constantine more. I mean, Constantine. COME ON. At least Constantine was laughably bad, and not just long and banal.

have a heapin helpin
Oh, wow. Yeah.
So, I totally just got done adding a whole heap '0' content to my website. There are a bunch of Mp3's to download, and I've got all the lyrics up there, too. Now you can sit back and read along with your favorite songs, from such classics as "Pineapple Trolley" to new favorites such as "Iron Curtain." No, but really there is stuff worth seeing. Plus, I've finally made available for download my 2002 release "Dead Owl on the Wall" in its entirety for everyone who lost their copy or wasn't around. Also, there are some free Mp3's from the new CD, which you can purchase online at the low low price of $5 hint hint wink. Just browse around, I spent a good deal of time on it.
The 'ol wisdom teeth are coming out tomorrow. I'll probably be totally incapacited for a couple of days, so I've come up with something to do. This guy at the open mic asked me how many songs I've written, and I had absolutely no clue. I'm going to try to compile a comprehensive list of all my songs. I think we will all be surprised.

that's what it's like at the open mic
The open mic was fun, I met a lot of really friendly people. I won't be back next week because I have to get all my teeth pulled, but I will probably be back the week after that.
Erik had this on his blog:
So, for the next open mic I attend... Fiona Apple cover?
Erik had this on his blog:
"I saw this on someone else's blog: put your media player of choice (cough cough WINAMP) on shuffle and write down the first twenty songs that it plays - no matter how embarassing."I know erik is totally hardcore for winamp, but I like iTunes more. Anyway, here's what I got when I tried this:
- No Phone - Cake (Pressure Chief)
- The Flower of Carnage - Meiko Kaji (Kill Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack)
- Stalker - The Pillows (FLCL soundtrack #1)
- Knife Chase - Tom Waits (Blood Money)
- I'm thirsty, I need Wahwah - Terry Taylor (Neverhood Soundtrack)
- Samambaia - Yo-Yo Ma (Obrigado Brazil)
- Dachau Blues - Captain Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica)
- Instant Music - The Pillows (FLCL soundtrack again)
- Animal Kingdom - The Meat Puppets (Up on the Sun)
- A Different City - Modest Mouse (The Moon and Antartica)
- Five Years - Seu Jorge (Life Aquatic Soundtrack)
- Moonside - Earthbound (Yes, music from the classic SNES game...)
- Vistas - Yo-Yo Ma (Appalachian Journey)
- Rv.401 Concerto In Cm For Cello, Strings & Basso Continuo - 2. Adagio - Yo-Yo Ma (Vivaldi's Cello)
- Ana Ng - They Might Be Giants (Live @ Grant Park, Chicago)
- Pain(A7) - The Pillows? (FLCL Soundtrack AGAIN)
- Shiver - Coldplay (Parachutes)
- The Penultimate? - Dan Huff (Dan Huff Solo Experiments #2)
- Token Back to Brooklyn - They Might Be Giants (They Got Lost)
- Castles Made of Sand - Jimi Hendrix (The Ultimate Experience)

7. Iron Curtain
8. I Won't Say Anything

they took me out to pull my teeth out
The open mic went pretty well. I played a Dan Huff cover that goes like this:
"What am I doing up here? I haven't written any songs and so I can't rehearse."
Then I played two new songs that I wrote, one called "Arboretum" and another called "Say Hello." That's when Justin and Tina showed up, and I played "The Lobotomizer," which is an I Need Sleep song. Some people got excited when I said I was in INS, which is a good sign that we're getting our name around.
I'll be playing again next friday, I'll try to get a good time more around 8:00, but you should prolly come at like 7 anyway.

your beat is nice
I posted the video of Dan Huff's Fat Bean performance on his website. It's worth watching.
Speaking of the Fat Bean, I'm going to be playing their open mic this friday. I don't know what I'm going to be playing, but I'm determined to do it anyway. Wish me luck.

quick
Ok, just a quick thing here. You remember that essay that I wrote? And then I dumbed it down so it was just about the worst essay ever? Yeah, I just got it back today. Here's what it said:
As long as I'm posting today, I might as well point out the trailer for Tim Burton's new movie "Corpse Bride." It's in the style of Nightmare Before Christmas, but I think it's CG. This disappoints me. What do you think?
Excellent!I am not making this up, I swear. I just sat there looking at it and laughing out loud. I got some weird looks.

morton arboretum
I went to the arboretum today, and it was very cold and there weren't many plants, but it was still better than English class. Click the pictures to see the larger versions.
I also hung out with the DL, the Brian, and the Reana. That was fun. I'm tired, and I didn't get some of the things done that I wish I'd gotten done, but whatever, it was a fun day. I'm off to bed.
