- Art project transforms parking space into park (complete with grass, tree and bench) until the meter runs out. (via)
- Even more science - Google Video: Powers of Ten - I saw this movie in a high school science class once and it affected me profoundly. I was happy to find it again.
- More science stuff - Video: Ferrofluid is a magnetic liquid. Bizarre patterns appear when it is exposed to rotating magnetic fields
- Video: Properties of cornstarch and water when vibrated - The last experiment is the scariest thing I've ever seen
- Worst analogies ever written in a high school essay - My favorite is "Her eyes were like two brown circles with big black dots in the center."
- Russian Climbing on Google Video - Incredibly strong russian guy wall-jumping and climbing all over old abandoned buildings. Some goofy editing, but really impressive stuff.

They Might Be Giants Podcast
My favorite band of all time, They Might Be Giants, has recently begun podcasting. The first mp3 includes a strange covers of "It Was a Very Good Year," a Banana Splits cover, "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too," and some kick ass original songs. You can subscribe to it on iTunes, which makes it real easy to keep track of updates or whatever.
Justin recently had to do a project on podcasting, and when he was done he asked me, "Why would anyone actually want to subscribe to one of these things?" Well, this is why. They Might Be Giants.

PS You should also check out the "Venue Songs" videos on tmbg.com with John Hodgman as the deranged millionaire.

Industry of the Ordinary's book launch

On Thursday, my sister and I went to Industry of the Ordinary's book launch. The first hundred people got free t-shirts that say "Vote For Me" in arabic, and then we all got our picture taken. Melon and I are in the upper left hand corner, and you can just barely make out our bodies. We had our hands in the air as she sometimes does in photographs, and I was hoping it would be a nice little easter egg for Mat to see later, but apparently we were cropped out. Bitches.
I'm really no good at these kinds of gatherings, and it's really kind of pointless if you're eating the cheese and crackers but you aren't old enough to get the wine. I had fun, though. The panel discussion started out a little rocky, and there was some incredibly pretentious artistic feedback from the audience, which always amuses me, but by the end Mat actually started talking and I became interested. Then they wrapped it up with a rousing chorus of "You're Shit and you Know You Are," which was borderline spiritual.
After that I said some goodbye's and got back the two dollars I had lent to Mat earlier in the semester. I'm gonna miss that guy.

Sword beats Watermelon
Some folks are complaining that I haven't updated in a while, so here's a little treat. It's a video I uncovered from last summer that involves a sword and a watermelon. I don't want to give too much away, but lets just say Jim, Sam and I discovered that summer that the watermelon's only natural enemy in the wild is the sword.
I'm trying out this vimeo thing, which is supposedly like flickr only for video instead of pictures, so we'll see how this turns out. It's a 15mb mp4 video file, so be patient.

Alternatively, if you don't have the time or the bandwidth to view the file above, I have also made available a smaller WMV version to watch. There is a sacrifice in quality, though, and it makes it harder to see the glorious pink mist.
